There are more than 4,000 towel factories here, 80% of them are small sized. The towel produced here consists of 1/3 of the whole towel production quantity of China. Almost 150,000 workers are involved.

However, these towel factories are also facing serious problems.

First: Low and medium end quality. There are about 10 to 20 factories here only produce towels for the Russian market. That gives them a deadly risk for being serviced for only one market. Normally they have contracts from their Russian buyers with fixed items, which means they only need to produce towels from the same repeated orders. They keep some quantity of ready stock for quick delivery. There is one factory called YUNFENG, they stocked 2M USD worth of towel set which only had one design for one customer. And when the Rouble decreased by 50% in the year 2015. The customer stopped importing these towels, this factory had to struggle to find ways to sell these towels by cutting 35% of its original price to get currency flow. So far, 50% of Gaoyang’s towels are sold to Russia, Africa, East Europe, South America. Only35% sold to the USA and West EU and Australia However, there are some factories, they have imported machines from Japan or Italy, they just lack of marketing, they produce quite good quality with high EU standard and some even have long staple cotton. They are also good at QC, so if you can find these factories, it would be a fortune to your company. They can produce good quality towels in a short time and with perfect QC and super competitive price.

Secondly: Size problem. Please refer to below data:

Thirdly: Thickness, we call it GSM, here, people are weaving 300-400gsm towels, even 450gsm is a high-end market towel to them. However, 400gsm is too low for the North American/European/Australian market. They need at least 500-700gsm, 700gsm Egyptian luxury bath towel is what they are dreaming for a quality life. There are some factories here they have imported machines, they can produce600-700gsm towels, 70% of these small factories here can’t produce more than 550gsm

Fourthly: Production environment. Since the year 2016, the Chinese government has taken lots of strict measurements to protect the environment, decrease the carbon emission. When the air quality is bad, all the factories would be closed, all production would be stopped. Lots of small factories can not afford a waste-water clean system which is at least 2M USD. There are many small towel factories that cannot get through during the year 2016-2017.They were broke.

So now, let’s find out the benefits for you to find a factory to produce your private label tailor-made towels.

First, Cheap price. As I said, 80% of them are small sized factory, most of them are family owned, with lower management cost. Besides, since it is the largest towel production base in China, it has all the supply chain related, yarn, dying, sewing, packing, weaving, shipping etc. If you can find a trust worth factory, and try some small orders, and then grow your order step by step, easily your year order can occupy more than 50% of its annual capability, then you have a say in it, basically you have an invisible control over the factory. They react fast alway, they can be your R&D center with new designs. But you have to find someone trust, like I said they are small family owned factories, most of them lack education and contract awareness, you need to find someone to keep an eye on every process from weaving to dying to sewing to packing and finally shipping. Each process can occur small problems if you don’t have someone here who can communicate with them

Secondly, quick sampling and short delivery time. Normally it takes 7-10days to make a customized sample which is shorter than India and Pakistan, who usually takes 14-21days. Delivery time 45-60days normally less than India or Pakistan who needs at least 70 days.

But, still need someone here to keep the delivery time on and find a trust worth factory.

Lastly: Quality. Although, 80% of the quality here is low or medium, you can still find some factories who own imported expensive machines, you can send them a sample, they can know the quality of the yarn, then they produce same as the sample quality. But you better have a good quantity, these factories have stable order, they can not stop the running machine and adjust to your style for a small quantity unless you can have someone to talk to them with a clear long- term cooperation plan.
